Pink Shirt Day!

Pink Shirt Day
Hey bloggers!
Last Friday we walked around Hillsborough and dropped of little paper t- shirts with anti bullying message on them. My one said 'Be a rainbow in someone else's rain cloud.' Our teachers printed out little t-shirts to write our quotes on and also we coloured them in mostly pink with a few other colours. 

We did at least three t-shirts each and then helped other people. After we had made all the t-shirts we split into groups, my group went all the way down Cape Horn Road which is way away from our school. We made so many shirts that we had enough to drop them way further away than planned. We got a message from a mental health expert and said that we should keep up the good work.

Welcome back for term 2!

Welcome Back To Term 2

Welcome back for Term 2 hope you have had a great holiday. For the start of this term we have been learning the lyrics to the song "Peace Train". We have done this because we want to spread a message of peace to everyone. We sang this for our assembly. For the start of this term we have been learning some Te Reo Maori. We have been learning to say fruits and vegetables in Maori. Our inquiry this year is well being, and part of that is eating healthy and being fit. This term we have also been doing a literacy tumble. That is when you get a whole load of different set tasks and complete them in a week. We completed a tumble last week and this week as well. If your school does Jump Jam (a fitness program) you will know who the Jump Jam man is. His real name is Brett and he came to our school to teach us Jump Jam. I have met him two times now because I was in a Jump Jam competition before.

My Narritve

My Narrative
Hey bloggers!
Last term my class wrote some amazing narratives. My narrative was about two girls and a penguin. They lived in a beautiful snowy forest, their homes were on the edge of a snowy forest. My main characters are Mia, Bella, and Poppy. Mia loves to play sport and is very athletic. Bella loves coding and hacking, and is naturally good at it. Finally there is Poppy she is a small penguin who loves to play tricks on everyone she meets. I personally think my narrative is pretty good considering that I haven’t written one in a long time. I especially like how much detailed it has
The Snowy Forest!

The frosty thin branches craned over the frozen lake as Mia  danced around her icy home. A large mansion on the edge of a snowy forest. She was playing hide and seek with her best friend Bella.”Found you.” Mia exclaimed. These two had been best friends ever since Mia had hidden from her parents !( Robert and  Clara. ) she hid in the tree, that hung over the place where Misty's family were having a picnic. “Okay my turn to be in.” Bella said in a huff , she thought her hiding spot was the best.

Mia had dirty blonde hair with baby blue eyes. She always wears a long navy blue dress that flowed out just a little and had speaks of white all through it. As I told you before Mia lives in a mansion on the edge off the snowy forest.
Bella had Dark brown hair with a short lilac party dress. Her hobby was hacking. Bella lived in a small cozy cottage next to Mia’s house. She always had a smirk on her face.

“Come on count to ten already!” Yelled Mia as she ran off into the frost covered woods. “Ok.” agreed Bella. “1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10!” “Coming ready or not.”  siad Bella slowly jogged off into the icy woods after Mia turning to anything that moved. Soon she could only see the tip off the mansion with its snowy white roof shining in the morning sun.

Suddenly a little penguin jumped out off a bush covered with icicles. “Oh my goodness Poppy you scared me.” Yelled Bella! You see the reason Bella and Mia moved into the middle of nowhere was because Mia and Bella found a crystal that lead them and their families to the forest. That crystal let them talk to animals. Poppy was the smallest penguin in the penguin gang, in other words the  tricksters that surrounded the gigantic icy forest. “It’s Mia!” Screamed Poppy in panic. “Flora the witch kiddnaped her!” “Hurry up then!” Screamed Misty.They sprinted to the far edge off the snowy forest, only to find that the cruel Flora was zooming away on her broom into the distance, Mia nowhere in sight.

Meanwhile Flora had taken Mia to her tall tower. Inside Flora the witch sashayed into the room in which Mia was prisoner in. “Since the snowy forest can’t survive without its Princess, I thought I should capture you that way you don’t have any fun and the snowy forest will melt!” She cackled. Mia just sat there in surprise, she could not believe that  she had fallen for flora’s trick. She new flora never liked the cold but she didn’t that she had a heart off well ICE! Flora had pitch black hair, a ripped dress and a gold encrusted broom.

“Oh come on.” shouted Poppy! She might of been small but she was very feisty. The towering drawbridge to the island on which Flora’s tower was on was raised up high in the air. “There’s no way to get across now.” Whispered Bella sadly, staring across the still, icy lake. “Wait.” yelled Poppy. “You could get us across Bella!” “Wait what!” “Yelled Bella in surprise. “You can hack the drawbridge and lower it down  over the lake!” So Bella cracked into action tapping away at her iphone like mad. Finally Bella had hacked right through the security and the drawbridge lowered.

“Who is making all that noise!” Screamed flora. “I’m sure it's just the wind.” Mia said suddenly. “Shut your mouth I didn’t bring you here to talk I brang you here to watch the melting off the snowy forest!” She cackled. (again) That was when Mia realized that without herself and the crystal in the snowy forest it would melt, all off the creatures would lose their home. “Why are you being so horrible to everyone?” Asked Mia rudely. “Why should I tell you.” Siad Flora in an expression that Mia had never seen her use. “Because I’m your friend so I can help...” “I want revenge!” screamed Flora interrupting Mia.

Flora used to be an employee working for Bella and Mia’s parents before Mia and Bella were born ( in the city.) She was secretly planning to steal the their parents business,but she was to late because they moved to the icy forest. So Flora followed Mia’s family all the way to the snowy forest, there she learnt to unlock her magic abilities. Flora wanted revenge so she decided to kidnap Mia, who unfortunately had the crystal at that time. If the crystal was put into the wrong hands could melt the snowy forest. So Mia wore the crystal around her neck, she took it everywhere.
“Come on you can do it!” exclaimed Poppy to Bella. “Easy for you to say!” “your getting a piggyback well I climb this flight of stairs.” Panted Bella. When they finally got to the top they found that the door was locked. ‘Oh no!”Whispered Bella. “What will we do?” Asked Bella “I know, we can try knock down the door!” whisper shouted Poppy. “ There’s a first time for everything right?” Said Bella. “ After all the tower is very old.” After a few tries it came down easy. “It worked!” Screamed Poppy in delight! They barged on inside and to Flora's surprise Mia was ready for it, she had heard Poppy and Bella while they were at the bottom off the tower! So she took Bella by the hand and off they went, down the stairs, through the Icy Forest back home safe at last. As for Flora, in all the rush she was knocked out the window never to be seen again!

Swimming sports

Hey everyone I'm back!
Today I'm back and I'm going to tell you about our swimming sports. We each got two races to begin with, then depending on how well you do in your other races you might get put into one of the relay teams or both. I got put into both of the relay teams, also I came second in both my original races. When I was in my first relay my team came first, in the second relay we came third. The two relay teams were The Parent, Teacher Relay V Kids. The second one was The House Relay. I was very proud to be in these relay teams. Since I am a school leader me and some of the other leaders had to go up to the front of everyone and encourage them to cheer on the little kids. We all did very well, and it was good that parents could come and help in the water. We walked to the pools, it was a great day for it.

Gumboot Friday

Gumboot Friday
Kia ora bloggers!
Last Friday was Gumboot Friday. Gumboot Friday is all about mental health. We raised awareness for people
struggling to think positively. That is what mental  health is all about, what you think about yourself. To help people
with mental health, Waikowhai Primary School made little cards with positive notes on them, to put in people's
letter boxes. Also on the actual Gumboot Friday itself, all the teachers wore gumboots to raise money for people
with mental health issues.
Imagine thinking only bad things about yourself? That's what some of the people that we are raising money for are
like. On some of the cards we wrote quotes or just little kind things that we thought up. Mine was, “Kind people are
the best kind of people.” Another one that I made said, “Be brave,  be delightful, be kind, be you.” We did this
because we wanted to brighten up people's day.
30 students were chosen to fill in a booklet called Puketapapa about well-being and making changes in the
community. I was one of those students. We filled in what we thought could be better for our community. I put
down on my form that we could post nice notes in people's letter boxes. Little did I know the teacher's would read
them and make a whole project out of a few words that came out of my mouth, so that's what we did.
Our inquiry topic this year is  well-being (Hauora). it means To think good things about yourself and live a healthy
positive life. It also means to look after your body. We have been learning about our emotions and connecting
them with music, we did it all with a deputy principal Miss McGrath.
Gumboot Friday is called Gumboot Friday  because the person who invented it thought that if you don't have a
very good well-being or mental health it's like your brain is wading through mud. In this case the mud is bad
thoughts about yourself. You need gumboots to wade through it. The person this year who is the head of Gumboot
Friday is called Mike King. He won New Zealander of the year in  2018.
I think that  doing this was really good for our community. One of the mum’s who got a note called the school and
said that the note had  changed her son completely. That just shows you what even the smallest things can do.

The Tread Lightly Caravan

Today we had the Tread Lightly Caravan come to school. Straight after the roll was called we ran through the rain to the Caravan, we were the first class to do all of the activities. We were divided into three groups. My group's first activity was the drain game. We were each given a bottle containing something you need to dispose of, I got cooking oil and fat. When it came your turn you would up to the front and then decide were your thing needed to go. The next activity was going and finding all of the drains around the school. We checked all of the drains to see if they were all clear of rubbish and other things, we learnt that its only rain down the drain. The third activity was Virtual Reality, we put on the headset and then we went on a under water adventure.

This week we have been doing lots of swimming at Cameron Pools. With my swimming teacher we have been learning to do laps across the poll and back again. We try do as many as we can with out stopping. We have been doing our pepeha witch is a way to tell someone else about yourself in Maori one NZ 3 official  languages. In your pepeha you talk about your family, your river, your mountain, your country, your city, your region, and your home.
